Moment to remember...brainless babies

Our middle son seems to pop up in the "Moments to Remember" series quite a bit.  He is cute and very creative, two qualities that give me a lot of material to write about. However, sometimes he gives me good material but it is not from being cute or creative.  Sometimes it comes from him misunderstanding something.  See, MS has Sensory Processing Disorder and PDD-NOS. Which means that MS looks at the world a little bit differently and the world handles MS a bit differently too. He likes smelling ALL kinds of things ( my friend's leg come to mind), he has a very select diet, and like jumping off stuff.  Yeah, I know, that sounds like any 6 year old boy walking down the street.  But also add that his speech language skills have consistently been two years delayed his whole life, he doesn't make good eye contact and he obsesses about the littlest things.  They are part of what makes our little boy who he is, but the world around him doesn't always "get it".

One of the biggest areas that MS struggles with is how to be socially appropriate.  He loves meeting new people and shaking hands with people.  He loves playing with other kids and is very quick to join in with other kids. However, he doesn't always know what the right thing to say to someone is.

Like when we were at a baseball game a couple of nights ago.

It was getting dark outside and MS and my youngest son (YS) were playing with a group of girls, when one of the girl's mom walks up with a new baby.  My two boys, who happen to love babies, run up and started admiring the baby.  My youngest says how cute the baby is and the mother leans over so they can see the baby closer.  MS agrees and say how cute the baby is, but then proceeds to tell the mother that her baby has no brains......

I quickly step in and say "What did you say?", thinking I heard him wrong.  Nope, I heard him right. He then tells me and the baby's mother that babies just lie there and say "Googoo, gaagaa"  and therefore have no brains. The mother reassures MS that her child has brains and quickly gathers up her other children and walks toward the parking lot.

I don't think we will be getting a play date invite any time soon from them....
